the view out of our window onto the new year
The new year welcomes us in an amazing light. For breakfast we just have some fruit today. Thank goodness we have no hangover from last night. After we have called our loved ones back home, we want to go for another walk today.

We want to walk to the village of Carrapateira, about 3 kilometers far from here. However, some raindrops fall down, and this rainbow spans the sky. Off we go at noon.

Heaven clears and it seems to be a nice day today. Thinking of Germany where there are some 20 degrees centigrade less than here, we are in high spirits. The village is known for its surfers who live here all year. Now in low season, some of them earn a living by working the vine yards or the fields.

We stop at one of the cafés to sit in the sun. But before long, some more raindrops come down so we rush, along with the other guests, inside the café. Pooh, how noisy it becomes. A mix of German and English, and the TV on. Some people look a bit run-down, driving clunkers. These aren't the local Portuguese but all sorts of foreigners, mainly Germans and Englishmen.
In the evening, Herbert tinkers on our website a bit. He reorganizes the folders and links for 2010. Last week we bought a large bottle of Gin we now open to mix and drink with tonic water. Annette especially loves the scent of it.
